The University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Liberal Arts will host the 35th Annual Student Symposium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. During this symposium, participants will present their writings and research and take part in other academic and creative activities. This year’s symposium theme is New Horizons, inspiring students to look beyond what can be seen. Throughout the day, attendees will reflect on the present here-and-now and think forward to the future. The symposium is an opportunity for students to win scholarships for their work. Scholarship categories include best photograph, best presentation and best paper.
With the theme of New Horizons, students and faculty are looking forward to hearing from keynote speaker Ryan RedCorn. Redcorn is an Oklahoma native who earned a bachelor’s in Visual Communication from the University of Kansas and recently graduated with a master’s in screenwriting. RedCorn co-founded an Indigenous comedy troupe called the 1491s and the advertising agency Buffalo Nickel Creative. Also, he is currently serving as a writer on the third season of FX’s tv show, “Reservation Dogs.” RedCorn will take the stage at the student symposium at 12-12:50 p.m. in the Liberal Arts auditorium for his keynote address.
For the past 35 years, the UCO College of Liberal Arts has hosted student symposiums highlighting exemplary work from students, and this year is no different. All UCO Liberal Arts classes will be redirected during this event to give students an opportunity to learn from their peers. This long-standing tradition is an exciting opportunity to reflect on the now and look forward. Here are three presentations you might be interested in.
