A group of students from the spring 2021 Professional Media Capstone (MCOM 4873) course have been awarded a first place national Broadcast Education Association award in the category of Student Interactive Media and Emerging Technologies Competition for their production of a campus esports event.
A judges’ commented, “This shoutcast was an impressive effort all around in both planning and execution for what feels like inevitably will be a staple for more media outlets. It’s really interesting to see in this entry how the traditional sports format is adapted for the interactive realm.”
The students awarded this prize are Michael Gilmore, Gretchen Houk, Jacob Silva, Kyle Tangco, and Tyler Wallace. A member of this group, Tyler Wallace, was recently hired at UCO as an esports coach. Two current professional media students also volunteered for this project and are pictured left: Tyler Loersch and Amber Poston.
This course is instructed by assistant professor of mass communication Dr. Desiree Hill.
