With voters heading to the polls Tuesday for statewide primary and secondary elections, the Oklahoma State Election Board has provided several tips and reminders for Oklahoma voters to keep in mind before you head to the polls.

Election Day Voting

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. Lines at the polls are typically longest during lunch hours and after work, and all eligible voters in line before 7 p.m. will be permitted to vote.

Closed Primaries

Oklahoma election have closed primaries. Voters registered with the Democratic or Republican parties will only be able to vote in their party’s primary. Independent voters are eligible to vote in the Democratic primary, should they request a Democratic ballot on election day. Independent and Libertarian voters are eligible to vote in any nonpartisan elections on their ballot.

Verify Your Polling Place

Due to statutory redistricting, some precincts have changed. As a result, some polling places may have also changed. All voters should verify their polling place before heading to the polls. Voters can verify their polling place using the OK Voter Portal or by contacting their County Election Board or the State Election Board. You must be at your assigned polling place to vote.

Be Prepared

Be sure to study the candidates and issues before going to the polls. You can view your sample ballot, find your polling place, and track the status of your absentee ballot using the OK Voter Portal. You can visit the Oklahoma State Election Board website to view the election list.

Proof of Identity

Oklahoma law requires all voters who vote in person to show a valid proof of identity before receiving a ballot.

There are three ways to show proof of identity under the law (only one proof of identity is required):

1. Show a valid photo ID issued by the federal, state, or tribal government; or
2. Show the free voter identification card issued to every voter by their County Election Board; or
3. Sign an affidavit and vote a provisional ballot. (If the information on the affidavit matches official voter registration records, the ballot will be counted after Election Day.

Ballot Status

Many people have concerns regarding the state of their vote once they cast their ballot. Information regarding ballot status can be found on the State Election Board website, along with details regarding Oklahoma’s voting devices and security procedures. In addition, election results will be available on the Oklahoma State Election Board website after the polls close at 7 p.m. on election night.

Beware of Misinformation/Disinformation 

Misinformation and disinformation can run rampant during election time. Because of this, voters are asked to be wary of information that seeks to promote theories or false claims of fraud, voter suppression, and/or other problems. If you experience an issue or believe an election crime has been committed, you should notify your precinct officials and contact your County Election Board while the incident is in progress. County Election Board officials will take immediate action to resolve the issue or contact law enforcement. Remember, state and county election officials should always be your trusted source of voting information.

Buddy Broncho

Buddy Broncho made his first appearance in UCO's own newspaper The Vista. It was the October 3, 1932, issue where a Broncho appears wearing a UCO football uniform. He has appeared numerous times throughout the years from local Edmond papers in the 60's to state-wide papers in the 80's. The commissioning of the first ever live mascot appears in UCO's 1979 Bronze Book where Buddy Broncho made his first public appearance at Homecoming. Since that time, Buddy has been a fixture at UCO events and in the hearts of UCO students.
